Message for Holy Week 2026

As members of the Guild of St Stephen, we rejoice this Easter with hearts full of gratitude and hope. This year carries special significance as we mark 120 years since our Guild was raised to the dignity of an Archconfraternity by Pope Pius X later Saint - a moment that bound us not only to one another, but to altar servers across parishes throughout the world.

Through this bond, our service at the altar is never isolated; it is shared in a great communion of prayer, discipline, and devotion.

During Holy Week, we stand closer than ever to the heart of the Church’s mystery. We walk with Christ through the drama of these sacred days: the joy of Palm Sunday, the solemnity of the Last Supper, the silence and sorrow of Good Friday, and the waiting of Holy Saturday.

As altar servers, we do not simply observe these moments - we serve within them. We carry the cross, we prepare the altar, we assist at the sacrifice, and in doing so we become part of the living expression of these saving events.

In the light of Easter, all our service finds its meaning. Every Sunday when we serve, we recall the joy filled events of that First Easter Morn. We are people of the empty tomb. We are Easter people and Alleluia is our song.

The Resurrection transforms sorrow into joy, death into life, and service into mission. Just as those first disciples were sent out in hope, so too are we called to continue our faithful service with renewed dedication and reverence.

United with our fellow servers across the world and strengthened by 120 years of shared tradition and commitment, may we continue to serve with humility, prayerfulness, and joy - always mindful that our ministry at the altar draws us ever deeper into the mystery of Christ’s love.

A blessed and joyful Easter to you all.
