Vincent Cardinal Nichols Retirement
Central Council Meeting with HE +Vincent in 2023
Today, just after his 80th birthday, 5 years after submitting his mandatory resignation at age 75, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of His Eminence, Vincent Cardinal Nichols from the See of Westminster and his other responsibilities, which includes the position of Superior General of the Archconfraternity of St Stephen.
We thank Cardinal Nichols for his guidance and support since he became Archbishop of Westminster in 2009 and when he was later created Cardinal in 2013 and wish him a long and happy retirement.
We welcome the news that Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Richard Moth, until now, Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, as the next Archbishop of Westminster. We look forward to welcoming him to the Guild of St Stephen as our new Superior General.
